South West Pacific Hydrographic Commission (SWPHC)

posted in development by admin

IIC attended the South West Pacific Hydrographic Commission (SWPHC) 2026, the International Hydrographic Organisation’s (IHO) regional body focused on improving maritime safety across the South West Pacific.

The Commission brings together representatives from Primary Charting Authorities/Hydrographic Offices, Maritime Safety Authorities, related agencies, and industry to address regional challenges and collaborate on shared priorities. Key discussions this year focused on the S-100 transition and capacity development.

Representing IIC, Managing Director – Oceania, David Crossman delivered a briefing on IIC’s activities and services supporting these priorities, particularly S-100 development and training/education.

A unique aspect of SWPHC is its rotating hosting model across SWP nations, with this year’s meeting hosted by SHOM in New Caledonia strengthening regional perspective while contributing to local economies and collaboration.

The Commission continues to foster strong partnerships among organisations working toward safer navigation and sustainable maritime development.
