posted in development by admin

The 10th IHO S-100 Working Group Meeting was held in Denpasar, Bali, from September 22–26, 2025, co-hosted by the Indonesian Navy’s Hydro-Oceanography Center (Pushidrosal) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).

A Global Gathering

80 delegates from 26 IHO member countries participated in this milestone meeting, working together to advance hydrographic data standards and interoperability. Central to the discussions was the IHO S-100 Universal Hydrographic Data Model, the foundation for modern electronic nautical charts and the future of digital navigation.

Preparing for the 2026 Rollout

This meeting marked a critical step ahead of the 2026 rollout of the first phase of the S-100 Operational Edition, which will replace ENC S-57. Key agenda items included:

• Finalization of operational documents

• Readiness of ENC S-101 as the core product of Phase 1

• Interoperability of supporting products including S-102 bathymetry, S-104 tides, and S-111 currents

IIC Technologies’ Contribution

IIC Technologies was represented by Ed Kuwalek (CTO) and Jonathan Pritchard (Senior Technical Manager), who both actively contributed to the working group discussions.

Jonathan Pritchard led a focused session for IHO Member States on digital signatures, a key element for ensuring security and integrity within the S-100 ecosystem. His session explored:

• S-100 data security and certificate management

• Workflows for robust digital signing procedures

• Public/private key concepts

• Real-world examples of secure S-100 data publishing

The session provided practical guidance to Member States on aligning digital security with existing IHO workflows, reinforcing the critical role of data integrity in the transition to S-100

Advancing S-129 Development

Alongside the S-100 plenary session in Bali, the S-129 Project Team met to advance development of the S-129 Product Specification.

Ed Kuwalek, CTO at IIC Technologies, presented the S-129 data production system developed for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), showcasing its functionality and key benefits. The system supports efficient, standardized S-129 data production, enhancing navigational safety and interoperability within the S-100 framework.

This work further reinforces IIC Technologies’ commitment to advancing hydrographic standards and supporting the transition to modern digital navigation.

Shaping the Future Together

The 10th IHO S-100 Working Group Meeting underscored the shared commitment of IHO Member States, industry partners, and hydrographic experts to shaping the future of digital navigation. Message us to learn how IIC Technologies supports the global roll-out of S-100 and next-generation hydrographic standards.
