IIC Technologies and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Discuss the Future of Hydrospatial Data

posted in development by admin

Continuing its global leadership in marine geospatial innovation, IIC Technologies recently conducted a technical workshop with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) focused on the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) S-100 standards and the emerging S-131 Harbour Infrastructure model.

Advancing Interoperability and Digital Navigation

The session, led by Ed Kuwalek, Chief Technology Officer at IIC Technologies, explored how ports can leverage the evolving S-100 framework to improve interoperability, enhance data-driven decision making, and modernize digital navigation systems.

The discussion highlighted the importance of adopting harmonized data models that support the integration of hydrographic, port, and maritime datasets, paving the way for smarter and safer port operations.

Driving Innovation Through Collaboration

Insights were also shared from the ongoing S-131 Harbour Infrastructure project, developed in collaboration with the IHO Innovation Lab (Singapore), Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), and National Taiwan University (NTU). The initiative demonstrates how the S-131 standard enables ports to capture, manage, and exchange harbour infrastructure data seamlessly, aligning with IHO’s vision for interoperable digital port environments.

IIC Technologies extends its appreciation to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for its collaboration and forward-thinking approach to digital transformation in the maritime domain.
