IIC Support Delivery of SPC LiDAR Training to the Republic of Marshall Islands

posted in development by admin

The impact on many Pacific Island nations from sea level rise, storm surge and climate change is significant. Therefore the Pacific Community (SPC), with World Bank funding, is conducting LiDAR surveys to provide quality data to assist Pacific Island nations with their planning and strategies to mitigate for these impacts. These surveys use laser sensors on airborne platforms to capture high precision 3D positions over land and sea.

However, the true value of this data can only be realised when the potential users have the knowledge and confidence to utilise it. IIC are very pleased to be working with SPC to achieve exactly that, delivering tailored LiDAR data training to the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI). The course was attended by several RMI Government departments and provided an understanding of the data, its accuracy, the underpinning vertical control and more importantly how to visualise and manipulate the data to achieve their desired outcomes.

In the coming months IIC, on behalf of SPC, will deliver this targeted training to 3 other nations and as well as a special LiDAR training-set to several multi-nation groups.

This is another great example of the excellent work undertaken in the Region by the SPC, delivered by IIC.
